Year: 1974
Author
O. I. Dombrovskiy
Description

As stated in the given report, the main goal of the team was the continuation of the excavations of the site of ancient theatre. The following goals were pursued: a) the completion of investigation of the so-called 1964 House, which investigation was interrupted in 1964 because of the west area of the excavation trench appeared close to the house of old monastery's hostel ; b) supplementary investigation of the street between 1958 Church and 1970 House, which was started in 1973; c) exploration of remains of mediaeval buildings between 1958 Church and south-east fortificational wall of the city, which was started in 1973 and later postponed till the year of 1974 because it was impossible to remove backfill soil; d) in the east area, removal of ballast filled-up soil (2 m wide at the avarage in the area about 60 square m) and investigation of  remains of mediaeval layers in situ, which are damaged by pits from plants in monasterial garden and trenches from the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. The latter was aimed at preparation by 1975 an area for excavation near the place, where recent years excavations unearthed several altars and inscriptions dedicated to Nemesis.
